Po/Dimbu/Leelaratne Wijesinghe Maha Vidyalaya has been around forty years since its inception. On January 05, 1975, Po/Dimbu/ Leelaratne Wijesinghe Junior College was started with 58 students and three teachers.
The first principal was K.B. Mr. Gunadasa. KP Mrs. Amaravathi, Mr. Ananda Halayagoda,Mr. L.B. Dissanayake are the founding teachers of Maya Vidyalaya.
The two-hall school consisting of a 60×20 building and a 100×20 building was transformed into the developed school it is today.
